SUMMUP Locals
The 22 locals who belong to SUMMUP represent AFSCME members, proud state workers across the Commonwealth, who are dedicated to the clients they serve within the Departments of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Public Health, Youth Services, and Corrections.

Under SUMMUP the leadership of these locals attends monthly meetings and receives training on many topics to improve its skills. These meetings also provide a great opportunity for locals with same agencies and the entire group to share ideas and to learn about issues in other facilities and departments. This sharing often allows for developing similar policies and finding resolutions for problems.

There are also two members from each SUMMUP local who serve on the bargaining team negotiating the Unit 2 contract for AFSCME members within the unit. This allows for a very clear understanding of issues for the employees represented by AFSCME. SUMMUP has also over the years provided training on negotiating skills.
