Candidate Speaks to SUMMUP Delegates

The delegates of SUMMUP Heard from candidate Doug Belanger on Wednesday, March 19th at their monthly meeting at the Tuttle Post in Auburn, MA. Doug is running for the 2nd Worcester Senate seat that will be vacated by Senator Ed Augustus who will not seek re-election.

Doug spoke highly of Senator Augustus thanking him for a job well done. He has decided to run because like the Senator, Doug has a passion for helping working families with their issues and those of the cities and towns in which they live.

Doug has spent a couple of decades now serving in town administration in Leicester, currently serving as Chair of the Board of Selectman. He is also an experienced activist picketing and marching with no regret or apology on the side of working families and unions.

He is a long time union organizer since being fired from a job many years ago for trying to organize co-workers to join a union. Doug is the current Vice President of UFCW 1445 and Treasurer of the Ma AFL/CIO Central Labor Council.

Doug stated at one point “I have picketed, marched, and testified on the side of  organized labor and working families without hesitation or regret. My passion and commitment are engrained in my soul. There is no doubt how I answer the question: Whose side are you on?”
