The Joint Workforce Development Program between AFSCME Local 1153 and Westboro State Hospital is proving to be quite successful.
The program is now in year three of a five year grant. Most recently one member who attended the program along with other classes moved from an MHW to an LPN position (unfortunately leaving Westboro) and another has promoted to an FSW4 supervisory position. The program was not only educational but was a great confidence builder.
Many supervisors are now expressing how much impact the program is having on the actual work of the members attending and are very willing to try and find ways to accomodate others who would benefit by attending.
Many other SUMMUP locals also have started similar programs so if you are interested in seeing a program like this at your local call your local president and ask some questions.
Other SUMMUP Locals who have now started programs for their members are Glavin, Fernald, and Worcester.
Congradulations to our May drawing winners:
Carol Petrin LPN2 and William Osie, MWH1
Both will receive a $25.00 gift card to the Dunkin Donuts.

Dear AFSCME Council 93 Member,
As you are aware, Governor Patrick is proposing an increase in state/higher education employee health insurance costs in his FY09 budget.
Please be advised that AFSCME Council 93 remains strongly opposed to any increase in employee health insurance costs and will be working aggressively with other public employee unions to defeat this proposal in the legislature. The following is a brief summary of the governor’s plan.
